The Maya Cosmovision is more than history, it’s a living worldview that connects people, communities, and nature. It emphasizes balance, cooperation, and respect for the environment. These are principles that have guided Maya communities for centuries. On Pacific Discovery’s Central America Gap Semester, students experience this culture themselves through adventure, volunteering, and meaningful cultural immersion.
From the turquoise waters and white sands of Tulum to the iconic pyramids of Chichén Itzá, students explore the rich history and culture of the Maya. Snorkelling in Cozumel, exploring cenotes, and floating through the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve show how Maya communities lived in harmony with nature.
Students also participate in cultural workshops, learn Spanish, and live alongside a local family in Guatemala for a week immersing themselves in their daily rhythms and traditions. Learn the language firsthand, savour authentic cuisine, and gain a deeper understanding of Guatemalan culture. This is a chance to forge genuine connections and live like a local. It gives students a deeper understanding of how collaboration and cultural traditions shape everyday life.
On Pacific Discovery’s Central America Gap Semester, students experience adventure alongside hands-on learning. Students hike cloud forests, raft the Pacuare River, and volunteer at animal rescue centres, seeing firsthand how communities interact with their natural surroundings.
Through community projects in Guatemala and Costa Rica, students contribute meaningfully while gaining insight into teamwork, responsibility, and social impact. On this program, travel goes beyond sightseeing. It’s about learning new skills, connecting with communities, and leaving a meaningful impact.
The Maya Cosmovision highlights connection, collaboration, and respect. These values are at the heart of every Pacific Discovery program. Students develop empathy, leadership, and problem-solving skills while exploring Central America’s landscapes, cultures, and communities.
