What sets us apart

Six Reasons Families Say Made The Difference

We Go Places Others Don’t

Polynesia, New Zealand, Australia & Bali, Southeast Asia, South America. Multi-country semesters that move you through cultures, not just past them.

Overland Journeys

The journey is the point: Slow boats down the Mekong, buses over the Andes, hikes between villages. Traveling overland gives you time to see the country between destinations, and it’s lighter on the planet too.

Learn Alongside Locals

Harvest rice with village families, weave with master artisans, stay in homestays and give back on service projects led by local partners.

Balanced Programs

Adventure, culture and everything between: No two weeks feel the same. Active days outdoors, hands-on cultural experiences, meaningful service and real downtime are woven together, so you’re never just sightseeing, and experiencing more than you would on any other program in a more meaningful way.

25+ Years of Building Local Relationships

The homestay families, village elders, artisans and guides you’ll meet aren’t booked through an agency. They’re partners we’ve known for years, so you’re welcomed as a guest, not a tourist, and get access no off-the-shelf tour can offer.

Supported Every Step of the Way

Small groups with one trained field instructor for every 7 students, a 24/7 emergency line, and trusted advisors from your first question to your flight home.

Questions families ask

Is a gap semester worth it before college?

90% of students who take gap time return to college within a year, and they graduate in a median of 3.75 years; while the average student changes majors 3 to 5 times. Students who start college with a clearer sense of direction are less likely to pay for extra semesters, and gap year students tend to outperform their predicted GPAs. A semester abroad is an investment that can pay for itself.

How is Pacific Discovery different from other gap year programs?

You don’t just visit places, you get to know them. For 25+ years we’ve built friendships with the families, guides and communities you’ll live and learn alongside, across multi-country routes like Hawaii, Fiji and New Zealand or Thailand and Laos. Groups are small, with one trained instructor for every 7 students, so you’re supported without being sheltered. It’s why 3,500+ alumni have traveled with us and families rate us 4.75 on GoAbroad and Go Overseas.
