Sawasdee from the City of Angels...Bangkok that is! Today has been so amazing it is hard to describe. We have all been together less than 24 hours and have had such an incredible day. Although tired this morning we all had a good breakfast then spent some quality time getting to know one another while we discussed what our month is going to look like. After a few hours of questions, games, and history we were off to explore. We began by jumping on a water taxi which took us up the Chao Phraya river, the main artery of the city. We arrived at Wat Po and saw Bangkok's largest reclining golden Buddha, made merit by placing coins in Monk alms bowls then hit the river again. At this point in the day we were all chugging as much water as possible from our cool new Pacific Discovery filter bottle and getting excited for airconditioning. The word of the day in Bangkok was HUMID. We ate lunch at Siam Paragon, a huge mall in the very urban district. This was a chance to cool off and explore the culinary delights. Somewhat sluggishly (being full, hot, and jet-lagged) we wound our way along a canal to Jim Thompson's gorgeous house. He is credited for reviving the Thai silk industry in the 1950's and bringing Thai silk to the international stage. His home is a work of art and houses an amazing collection of Buddha statues, some as old as the 8th century. We made it back to the guesthouse in time to relax, swim and snack before we were indulged in our very new favorite thing. . . the Thai massage. Nothing is better after flying around the world than getting your limbs stretched and muscles relaxed. This is the cure for all of life's worries. Dinner was at Mai Kaidee's, where we had more delectable Thai dishes, fruit shakes and desserts along with some live entertainment. The manager of the eatery performed some traditional Thai dancing and told us about her cooking school. Needless to say it has been a fun, long and generally over-stimulating day. We are all ready and excited for what lies ahead. -XOXO, the Thailand Crew
