6 days in Australia by Jenny Pushner

One of my goals for these 10 weeks is to take a photo each day that describes either the day or a significant moment that happened during the day. So I figured the best way for me to share about my experience with you all was by sharing my first 6 photos from my time in Australia!

Day 1:  This photo of Mikaela, Ethan, and Aidan was taken outside a mall in Moorychdore on our first full day of orientation. We had all rushed into our van (nick-named Tony or Tina - which ever you prefer) to go shopping, after quickly rinsing off after a beach trip. I was so excited to experience Australia in all its beauty from the gorgeous sunsets over the ocean (that we saw the day before) or the ones in a shopping mall under construction.

Day 2: A fun day! We had orientation all day but in our little breaks between sessions we made sure to get to know each other, bond, and laugh a lot. Here is the family I drew on Ethan's toes after we had just finished a talk where we shared about ourselves and something important that the group should know about us.

Day 3: Here I am squatting under my tent at Elanda point. It was the first tent I built of the trip and I was oozing with pride. My arms and feet were sore from pressing the pegs into the hard ground - but after setting up camp we spent the rest of the day preparing for our canoe adventure the next day. I used my time to journal in a hammock, and then join in on the group's baseball game (which we played with a tennis ball and 2 sticks that Phillip and Ethan crafted by hand).

Day 4: This was taken on the second part of our canoe trip through the Noosa Everglades. I chose this as my picture of the day not because it's the most phenomenal picture of I took that day of the trees and water but because when looking at this photo I remember canoeing, with my partner Jazmine, in the back of the pack when Mikaela and Ethan crashed into the grass and beached their canoe. Despite their struggle all 4 of us laughed the whole time and eventually managed to catch back up with the group!

Day 5: This is definitely one of my favorite photos I have taken so far on this trip. I love the way the sun is shining trough the mesh of our tent behind Morgen. I took this photo to capture the specialness of Morgen's full night of sleep but also to remember how cold we were the night before staring at the stars from inside our tent.

Day 6: Was a long day. We got up at 5:30am in order to leave campsite 3 before 7:30am to try and make it back to Elanda Point before the wind got too bad. Unfortunately we weren't so lucky and paddled through some intense wind and waves on our way back across the lake. At one point, all of us had someone out of the canoe pulling it across the choppy water (the lake is incredibly shallow - knee deep in many places). Ethan and I were at first doing pretty well, until we tried to get back into our canoe to start rowing again which was when we nearly capsized and caused our canoe to fill 3/4 of the way with water. Here Mikaela is posing with the Mystery Machine Van, she and I spotted in Noosa on our way back from the grocery store to buy the group some much needed laundry detergent. Her tired legs and half open eyes describe perfectly my pride and exhaustion from the day's adventures.

I'm excited for what's to come in the next few days which will be filled with snorkeling, surfing, and exploring!

Happy traveling!
