From Pad Thai to Pai

What an amazing two days! We were finally in one place long enough to call it "home." We woke up to meet the fabulous Yui for an authentic Thai cooking class. We started at the market where locals gather to sell their crops from the day. Tables of freshly picked fruits and vegetables were as far as you can see. Just pass the fruits were tables of pre-prepared food to grab on the go. Then everyone's favorite place- the meat room. We won't go into detail but that was quite… Read more

Trekking our way to Burma

When I was younger, my parents used to make my sister and I go on long hikes through the woods every Sunday. We honestly hated it, but I was so ridiculously grateful for it after surviving a 15-mile trek through the jungle to a small village on the Thailand-Burma border. We were accompanied by a stray dog that we named Baxter, and he impressed us with his innate trekking abilities as we crossed rivers and climbed up the steepest hills I have ever seen. That night, the gr… Read more

Cooking, Trekking and More

After our unforgettable first week in the colorful country of Thailand, the group embarked on a spiritual journey to the outskirts of Chiang Mai where we were treated to a silent Meditation Retreat lead by monk ‘KK’. Wearing all white from head to toe and unplugging from the outside world, the group gained many lessons both practical and spiritual from the 2 days of meditation and silent reflection. After waking up at 5am for morning gong and chanting we finished our las… Read more

Making our way through the land of smiles

Our first week in Thailand has been a whirlwind of wonderful experiences. We started off exploring the pulsating streets of Bangkok, taking in the juxtaposition of fast paced city life and peaceful ancient temples. After visiting the reclining Buddha, taking water taxis, seeing silk entrepreneur John Thompson's expansive home and dining at one of Bangkok's many malls, we were ready to embark on the next part of our month long journey. Early in the morning, the group set… Read more

A Belated Thank You to Elephant Nature Park

Many people in our group had never had an encounter with Thailand's most majestic animal... The elephant. Prior to our arrival, we all had the stereotypical expectations of what that experience would be; elephant riding, elephant painting, and petting the babies. Excited and exhilarated, we soon realized that at Elephant Nature Park, there are more natural and rewarding ways to interact with elephants... And we walked away impassioned and informed of the hardships of the… Read more

Rocking around Thailand

Hellooooo bloggers, it's your crew from Pacific Discovery Thailand! We just spent our first week here in Thailand and I gotta say.... it's been amazing. Having arrived in Bangkok, we were shocked by the vibrant city of friendly faces, food stalls, and humidity. The vivid colors of Khao San Road, the relaxation of a Thai massage, and the majestic temples were a good taste of the culture and people of Thailand. Soon we were on our way to the old capital of Thailand, … Read more
