Agriculture was developed independently in the highlands around 9,000 years ago, making it one of the few places in the world where plants were domesticated. Today, Papua New Guinea has a population of 6 million speaking over 800 languages. And for its incredible biodiversity, it has been highlighted as one of 17 mega-diverse countries in the world by the United Nations Environment Program.
